It is evening as I finally sit in front of my computer. I was sitting on the porch enjoying the cool air and also the silence. All day the noise of the construction continued. In the picture you can see a crane lowering a set of metal stairs down to the second floor.
Tomatoes are loving the sunshine .
I made 4 little jars of blueberry jam plus a jam pot for the last bit . Almost immediately I noticed fruit flies hovering in the area so I quickly made a fruit fly trap using apple cider vinegar in a glass covered with plastic wrap in which I made a couple of small slits. I'm happy to see it is working and there are victims floating in the vinegar.
My helpful gardeners came for an hour or so before lunch. They are putting down cardboard in an effort to keep weeds down in some areas especially near the fence ( where it won't really show).
Now the day is about done and I'm going to read until my eyes start to fall shut. Somehow I don't think that it will take long.
Thanks for visiting.
Lovely tomatoes! I have had a very poor season, as have many people here. I had about half the normal tomato crop, very disappointing.
ReplyDeleteThose tomatoes look delicious.
ReplyDeleteI wish you did not have to listen to all that noise...a constant noise like thstvgets old.
I like your fruit fly trap and will be making one just like it! I haven't made jams in a long time! I really wanted to make hot pepper jelly this year but my peppers didn't grow! Maybe I'll go to a fancy produce place and buy an assortment and make some for Christmas gifts.
ReplyDeleteTomorrow is September!!!! I am so excited!!
Blueberry jam is very good! I did not know the trick to catch fruit flies I’ll try it. I love tomatoes but can’t eat them anymore unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteMary, what you've given me is a great idea on how to keep away the fruit flies I sometimes see around here.
ReplyDeleteI chose to live in this area because it was a place of low houses, residential chalets, near the sea, but a while ago some owners preferred to sell, so this entire area is covered with skyscrapers that give me shade and prevent me from enjoying the sun.
The noise of the machines and workers at work is hellish after 7 in the morning.
The jam looks lovely. And that jam pot is so cute.
ReplyDeleteWe are finally getting rain. Big ol' thunderstorms passing through and dumping gallons and gallons on us. It is so wonderful.
I never thought about the BER months before. I like that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the instructions on the fruit fly trap. I might need that.
I can imagine the peace when the noise stops - it would be bliss to sit on your porch and enjoy the silence.
ReplyDeleteYes, silence can be so enjoyable ...
ReplyDeleteYour tomatoes do look tasty.
All the best Jan
I like to watch work going on like that.
ReplyDeleteTomatoes look wonderful. I miss having home grown tomatoes.
Jam sounds delicious and what a clever way to get those fruit flies!
Weeds are popping back up in the garden that I just cleaned out. I am also thinking cardboard! I am trying to hold off beginning a new book until we get cooler weather.
ReplyDeleteI love when my eyes start to fall shut. :) A good feeling after a day full with good work..
ReplyDeleteThe fruit flies also here in my kitchen start to have their big season! I have a catcher from my son with lemon and small "windows", where the flies go in and later I can let them go out anywhere. Hope they don't come back :)))))))
Sorry for the noise in your silent evening.
My daughter was complaining today of a fruit fly invasion--canning has been underway at her home. We have a few hovering near the kitchen sink--maddening things. Too hot for porch enjoyment here even early in the morning. 91 F. at a few minutes before 6 p.m.
ReplyDeleteYour blueberry jam looks great, and so do your tomatoes. What a good fruit fly trick! You have such good helpers in your family. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteSilence is so lovely! The best! Thats why I live on the countryside :)
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Sunday...
Titti
Yummy food! Jam and tomatoes are some of the BEST of summertime eating. That's a great idea to trap flies. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBlessings and hugs,
Betsy
I'm sure it isn't an easy thing to deal with all of the construction noise all day long. I know it would be for me.
ReplyDeleteI used to do the same thing as you when it comes to the trap for the fruit flies. Then one of my brothers told me that if I put a few drops of dishwashing liquid into the vinegar I wouldn't need to use the plastic wrap. I started doing that and it works just as well. Adding the drops of dishwashing liquid coats their wings and they can't get out. :)
