This and That

The clouds last night were so amazing. Daughter Sheila took this photo. I though of taking one but mine would have had utility wires crossing it so I'm borrowing hers.

These pretty mugs were left behind when someone left them in the apartment they moved out of. Middle son brought them home and I've chosen some to keep and some to donate. Not because they're not lovely but it's a matter of space to keep them.

In the kitchen these Orange & Date muffins were what my DH and I enjoyed on the weekend. I'm not as fond of dates as he so before baking them I pushed a whole  (pitted) date into some. The rest of the dates are quite finely chopped which is how I prefer them.

This morning I washed strawberries and made 4 little jars of jam. I added some fresh rhubarb to give it more flavour. It turned out a bit runny but that's okay.

I'm taking a break from doing laundry but I should get back to it. I don't like my washer at all. It's so slow and because it's a "water saver" one has to be careful or it adds so little that the clothes are barely covered. I tell myself it's better than having to scrub them on the scrub board ( my mom's old scrub board hangs on the wall right over my unloved washer).

Thanks for coming by.  GM

  1. Your muffins and jam look wonderful. My washer does the same. I've taken to adding a bucket of water to the washer before I start it and then the washer adds more to the drum too because it "fools" the washer into thinking there are more clothes there because of the weight of the water! A pain in the neck but the clothes are getting clean again!

  2. I hate my washer too, cause it is a watersaver. And so slow. I could write a whole blog post on why I hate it. I have to do a double rinse or my clothes smell. They smell like the wash water! the only thing it does right is it really spins the water from them!

I love the cups...the reason I don't collect is no space. I used to pick up more sturdy coffee cups but had to get rid of part of them.

Runny jam spreads more easily! and still tastes just as good.

  6. The clouds are beautiful in contrast rose-lightblue!

Fine cups, you will find a good place. her in Bavaria we say. One more is always possible :)

Baker Granny Marigold makes all happy, who enjoy these nice golden Muffins!

I think your laundry and the scrub board of your Mother are somehow very good friends :)

Last nor least: Why can I not take now a spoon full of this sweet strawberry-jam!?!?!

  7. I would rather have a warm muffin with a bit of butter than any other dessert. Your Orange/Date Muffins look so good! The mugs are lovely, but they would take up lots of space. Your daughter got a great shot of the clouds!

  10. What amazing clouds (I love cloud watching). I also have a scrub board hanging in the laundry LOL. I bought it over forty years ago and still use it occasionally when doing hand-washing. The mugs are pretty and your cooking sounds very deliciously edible :)

  11. That is a beautiful sky. I have a lot of wires in my neighborhood too, hard to get a picture without them in it. The muffins look so good although I'm not a 'date' person either. Hope all is well with you, have a good day.

  12. The clouds are wonderful and the cupcakes too :-) I love to bake.
The strawberries have been ripe here in the fields since Monday, I'm looking forward to picking to make the first cake and
also some jam. Homemade must be :-)
    Warm regards to you. Viola

  13. My washer is the same. I always look through the glass lid and think there isn't enough water in there! lol Oh well...they all seem clean and smell good!

  14. That sky is so beautiful! I think it's funny how so many pretty cups find their way to you. Those are all really pretty. I don't like my washing machine either. It's the kind with no agitator (is that the thing in the center that scrubs the clothes?) Never again! I want a washer that scrubs the clothes good and one you can see the clothes as they're washing. :) Those muffins look delicious.

  16. I love your orange muffin recipe. I remember when you shared it before, and it was so delicious!! Those mugs are really pretty - the fluted sides are elegant. Isn't it wonderful to get back to the thrift store?

  18. Such a pretty photo. We picked up a delicious raspberry jam from the farm market and I'll reuse the jar to make some strawberry jam! My washer is working.. so far, but the dryer is not drying as it should so I've been line drying which is so much better. God bless!
