This and That

We woke up to clear skies and the promise of a lovely day. We've had so much rain so the days of sunshine are very precious.

It was strange going for my walk and not wearing a sweater. I remembered to pass by the 6 story apartments designated for seniors because I wanted to take a picture of this cute sign!

Continuing on my walk I passed by this McMansion being built next to a very big house which is almost dwarfed by this new one.

The above photo I took yesterday; today 2 construction workers were at the very peak nailing away wearing no safety equipment whatsoever. I hope they don't slip and fall.

When I came back I worked in my flowerbeds for a while. It will be too warm this afternoon and I wanted to hoe out more weeds so the sun could dry them up.

I picked this cookbook up at the thrift store recently and I plan on spending some hours on the porch reading about fancy recipes I probably won't make and looking at lovely pictures. I read cookbooks much like novels then go back to making my old favourites.

I hope you are having a good day,
Thanks for coming by,

G.M.

  2. Like you, I love the look and feel of a new cookery book. The photos are always entrancing, and sometimes I do use the recipes, but it is just the joy of gazing!
Those are going to be very big houses aren't they?

  3. This is true: reading interesting recipes like a story and then going into the kitchen and make your own fine dinner :) :) :)

Respect for the workers on the roof!

Funny paper to hold Corona-distance like one cow :)

Blue sky after a lot of rain: I can imagine you enjoy! Long days now before solstice - I really appreciate this special time in the year.

  4. You have made my day :) I laughed at the sign, and then I laughed again when you said you read cookbooks. My husband and I used to spend hours and hours reading cookbooks together - everyone thought we were so strange! We seldom made anything, it was just so much fun browsing through the recipes and pictures and discussing them. Enjoy your afternoon on the porch :) xx

  5. I spent time in my garden today too. Tom worked in the vegetable garden, where the cold wet weather was not kind to our seedlings and germination. Disappointing.

  6. You find the greatest books. They always look like books I would love to read and look through too! Glad you had a nice walk and a nice day!

  7. 1 cow = 6 feet. Now that's funny! LOL! My daughter-in-law works for the postal service - they handed out placards that they wear around their necks with a card that say "please stay 6 feet from me" and then it translates that into Spanish. The word for feet in Spanish is "pies"... so she and her hispanic friend made their own picture of 6 pies sitting between them -- silly girls. I've seen a lot of funny signs for the 6 foot distancing, poeple have been pretty imaginative and funny even in spite of the pandemic. Blessings to you Granny! ❤️

  9. Loved the sign for social distancing. I too read cookbooks like novels - a perfect read before going to bed! One of the most memorable of my cookbook reads was one from Newfoundland where it featured recipes for ground liver "meatballs" and various ways to cook/prepare seal flippers. I enjoy the cultural diversity of cookbooks from various regions though, like you, I always go back to my own recipe collection.

  10. I have a sister that collects cookbooks....and I think she used to read them the way you do. I love that sign...at least people are coming up with ways to put a little humor in the situation.

  13. I love the Cow sign! My neighborhood is like that... older homes and then the new construction which often turns out so ugly. I'm a lover of cook magazines and books too. They make for some interesting reads.

  15. Whenever I've tried to read a cookbook, my mind immediately turns to mush and then it turns off. I just have NO interest at all. But if I desperately need one recipe? Then I go hunting in there!
