I have made Pfeffernuesse cookies for many years but they were different from the ones that Karen made ( and posted about on her blog Life is Good). She also has a blog called Karen's Kitchen and that's where I found her recipe. The picture below is her picture.
These are the cookies I made and they don't look as pretty as hers but OH MY but they're good.
I didn't roll mine in icing sugar preferring to make a thin glaze and pouring it over the cookies once they cooled. I'm definitely going to make these again next Christmas.
I'm continuing to go through my books and letting any go that I no longer want. As I paged through this book on Teddy Bears for the last time I noticed that the Bride Bear looked a lot like one of my bears.
This bear, Lydia, sits on the bed and keeps an eye on the other bears, the ones that sit on top of the wardrobe.
Today's teacup was made by Royal Chelsea.
I hope you had a lovely Sunday. Thanks for visiting, GM
I think that both yours and Karen's cookies look delicious! I love Pfefferneusse and receive some for Christmas every year. Would love to sample yours and Karen's too! :)
ReplyDeleteMmm-mm, Pfeffernuesse! I didn't even taste one Trader Joe's version this year, or any other of those cookies. It's not too late, is it??? Maybe I can make a small batch this month. It's definitely cocoa-and-cookies weather here...
ReplyDeleteOh the memories those cookies bring back. My Grandma made the BEST pfefferneusse cookies. I haven't had them since she died 44 years ago! She immigrated from Germany when she was 4 and she told me that her parents never spoke English well, but tried hard to learn it. Her mother taught her all of the old-country recipes and I remember her making cottage cheese and sauerkraut to name just a few. Her recipes passed with her though because she would never, ever share one with anyone. She made the most amazing Sour cream raisin coffee cake. It was in a 9 x 13 pan and weighed about 10 lbs!

Yummy cookies. Both styles. Sweet teddy bears.
ReplyDeleteThey look delicious. Are they gingery?
ReplyDeleteLove the cookies and all the teacups!

I have one teddy bear that looks like yours I bought it in New York. Your today’s tea cup is very nice. I must have a look on the blog and try the cooktop recipe
ReplyDeleteYummy cookies... I like. Today I fried quark tips in fat, but actually I prefer to bake in the oven. That means I won't be baking quark tips again any time soon.
ReplyDeleteTeddy great :-))) I also have two teddy bears sitting on my sideboard.
I like the cup... I like coffee and tea... best wishes to you.
Happy week to you from Viola.
I love teddy bears and tea cups, which means I loved your blog today. :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you liked the cookies!! They are one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteYour teddy bears are so cute!!
Those look like the cookies I make that have many names: Russian tea cakes, Mexican wedding balls, Sand dabs. Powdered sugar is a must.
ReplyDeletePfefferneuse with a glaze would be so delicious. I've never made them, nor has my mom, but my grandma used to. It would be a good tradition to revive.
ReplyDeleteSweet bridal teddy bear!
Yum to both of your cookies. I have never made Pfefferneuse. I'm going to check out Karen's recipe.
ReplyDeleteYour teddy bear does bear a close resemblance to the one in the book. Were you still able to part with the book after making that discovery?
Oh those cookies look so good. Reminds me of the cookies I've made called Wedding Cookies. Bears are just too cute. Hugs and blessings to you. Cindy
ReplyDeleteWhat fine cookies! I think, they are delicious! I think, your bears come alive as Kitty and are members of your house and family!
ReplyDeleteThe cookies look good, and a very nice teacup.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Cookies look delicious, love anything rolled in icing sugar! Your bears are so adorable, it is hard to part with loved books, I understand. Your teacup choice today is lovely! I love your blog header with all the teacups displayed so beautifully! Happy New Year to you :)
