Visit to the Thrift Store

We had a number of boxes of stuff to drop off and  of course I had to go and and have a look around. I saw this unusual piece of handwork. I have no idea what it would be for. Some of the squares are actually pockets, others are not. The piece in the middle felt like leather but the words on the back say it's a chalk board. Apparently it was a gift to someone called Sandra in 2006. I wanted to buy it because it seemed a shame to leave it there, unloved and forgotten but I resisted.

What I did buy was this crocheted doily. I thought it was so pretty and priced at a dollar I couldn't resist.

Here's today's teacup made by Royal Grafton.

Ellabie: I like honey in my Earl Grey tea.  A Tbsp of Apricot Brandy gives a wonderful taste too.

Thanks for visiting, Have a lovely weekend.  GM

  2. What a beautiful teacup! The crocheted doily is very nice. You did good to take it at home. The "unusual piece of handwork" will - I hope - find a good place somewhere. I can imagine to go to the Thrift store always is an adventure :)

  5. Gorgeous tea cup & saucer. With all those gorgeous cups & saucers to choose from, I don't know how you decide which one to use on any given day! I received some fruity herbal teas as gifts and finding that I am quite enjoying them. Perhaps a splash of Brandy might make me enjoy them a wee bit more!

  7. What a shame to have that gift sitting in a shop to be sold after someone went to so much work to make it for their friend. The doily is lovely though and a great deal at $1.00. Pretty teacup too!

  8. I recently donated several things and ended up feeling like a traitor for taking the things away from their nice warm home! 🥴 How ridiculous is that? I love the doily and know it is thankful for its nice warm home. Hilltop Post

  9. Oh my, Apricot Brandy in tea! I love apricot brandy but have not had any for years now. I would never have thought of putting it in tea. It sounds rather yum :)

  11. That such a beautiful and elegant teacup and saucer you chose. I love the colour. The story of the unique piece of stitching would be interesting to learn.

  13. Happy New Year GM! That is a very pretty doily indeed. Love all those pretty tea cups on the shelves. I'll be having a run to the thrift shop TO DROP OFF, I never drop off and visit at the same time. I'm trying to limit these or I'll forever be dropping off. But I do enjoy a visit now and again, as the whim takes me.

  15. Love your new doily. My grandmother and great aunts loved to crochet doilies and I've inherited a number of them. I've tried to crochet with cotton but it just looks awful when I do it so I treasure the doilies from my gram and aunts.
