Summer Solstice

Apparently Summer begins here at 7:57 A.M. tomorrow ( Wednesday) morning. I'm not at all sure how those who know these things can be so precise. We will have 16 hours and 16 minutes of daylight.  After this week we move toward Autumn.

We walked in the rain this morning and the forecast isn't great for tomorrow but as of Thursday we'll beheading into sunshine. That should ripen the strawberries

I wonder if these geese had something happen to their first batch of goslings because it's unusual to see  a family with such little ones at this time.

These two had just one gosling obviously older than the little yellow ones.

My perennial Sweet Peas (Lathyrus latifolius)  are blooming.  I used to have a white one but now all I have are these pink ones. They come back every year and ask for nothing much in the way of care. Unfortunately they have no scent.

Thanks for coming by....and thank you for your  comments.   GM

  2. I love your Sweet Peas - I have a childhood friend whose father grew them on the back chain link fence every year, all colors, they were so lovely.

  3. I love the geese photos and the lovely sweet pea flowers. Wishing you a happy summer. It's chilly and rainy here, doesn't seem much like summer.

  4. I just called one of our big produce markets to check, and, yes, local strawberries are in! I need some for my Monday luncheon. We'll be there after 10:00 Sunday morning when the fresh picked ones come in.

  5. I love sweet peas but have never had good luck with them. I've also never heard of ones that don't have a smell, I'm so sorry. They are beautiful though :)

  7. I'm so frustrated with sweet peas!
I can grow most anything but not sweet
    peas.
I planted them this year and the plants are massive, twinning through the gardens. I have them planted in different
Beds. Only one produced pink flowers.
    What am I doing wrong?

  10. I really feel with "happyone"..Solstice - summer and winter - always makes me think about time and about the way through the year. Let's hope for a good and blessed summer and not be afraid of autumn and winter. In six months Christ is born..
Good luck for the little ducks! Your loving eyes gives them their dignity..
I always like to say: Every flower is a prayer..

  11. I can't keep up with things like summer solstice and would never know if someone didn't mention it on a blog post. :) I've never tried to grow sweet peas. Maybe I should try. Yours are pretty.

  12. GM, the summer soltice, Fall is my favorite and I look forward to it every year. This soltice brings it in gently and we can still enjoy what is left of summer, but for me Fall is the jewel.

  13. I'm glad we're now moving toward autumn, the heat we're having here is awful. Autumn weather takes a while to get here, we have a long wait. The peonies are beautiful♥

  14. It's hard to believe that it's going to start heading toward autumn now. It is SO hot and humid here this week. That's why we had planned to be away. The best laid plans of mice and men as they say! I think the goose families are so sweet. I do miss the canadian geese we saw all of the time at the lake in Washington. Your flowers are so pretty and so is the doily. I love doilies.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  16. I wonder if those perennial sweet peas are similar to the wild ones we have in California. I collected some seeds in the country and tried to get them going in my garden a few years ago, without success. I don't think I noticed if they had a scent...
