The storm we had earlier in the week caused this old Weeping Willow to fall on a fence where Youngest Son had to clean it up. Actually it looked like only half of the great trunk broke off.
The tree had quite a bit of fungus growing on it and apparently that can weaken a tree. I did not know that.
My Thanksgiving Cactus is blooming. The white one is just forming buds now but the yellow/peach one is in full bloom.
I'm quite pleased with my Wordle guess this morning. I got it in 2 tries. That has never happened before!
I'm sorry I didn't bother to copy and paste the poem yesterday. I think my hope was that you would discover the site for yourself. I find it's worth the visit.
The sun is trying very hard to break through the clouds this morning. It's 9C with no wind. Time to go out and check on my rabbit. Yesterday when I opened the door to her cage she was so anxious to see what I might have brought her as a treat that she actually fell out. It's about a 3' drop but she seemed fine and after a brief hop around she let me pick her up and put her back.
Have a lovely weekend. GM
My cactus has just started to bloom also. Yours is a very different colour! I got Wordle in 3 today!
ReplyDeleteGlad you caught your rabbit again. Here we have about the same temperature at the moment. We are going to cut some branches of our trees before the winter wind storms.
ReplyDeleteSorry you lost your tree but glad it only hit the fence. We are cold tonight after a very warm fall.
ReplyDeletecathy
I also think, that the mushrooms on the willow show, that she was weak. So she had now and end of her life. For me every tree is a person :) She did not want to hurt you, when she fell...
ReplyDeleteMy cactus is starting to bloom too.
ReplyDeleteI still enjoy doing wordle too. Ken and I both use the same starting word and see who uses less words. You did great getting it in 2!!!
Getting Wordle in two makes us feel pretty smart, happy that we're not losing it in our old age. Three is good too.. I actually got it in one once. I always use the same start word, and that day, that was it!
ReplyDeleteYou have a rabbit? I didn't know you had a rabbit. Have you had it for a long time? I LOVE your peach cactus.....such an amazing color compared to those I usually see.
ReplyDeleteI keep forgetting to do Wordle. I was great about it on vacation but once I got back home to "real" life and busier, I never remember.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your tree. So many trees lost this year with all of the storms. It's pretty sad. Your cactus is beautiful. I had a big Christmas cactus that only bloomed around Easter every year. I gave it away when we moved into the camper a few years ago. I'm starting over with all new plants since we bought the condo, but still haven't gotten a cactus yet.
Hope your Saturday is a great one.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Your cactus is very pretty! That was a big tree!
ReplyDeleteMy cactus (pink) is blooming now. More rain in the forecast here, and some wind. It's good your son could take care of the tree.
ReplyDeleteMy cactus would never bloom! Yours is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
Donna
You have to be careful when opening and closing the door where you keep the rabbit. When I was little I didn't realize it and I hit her in the nose and she died. I suffered a lot because of it.
ReplyDeleteThe Thanksgiving cactus is really pretty, it has overtones of yellow? Mine is just now getting some buds, it is of a pearly white color, these are so pretty arn't they? GM, please update your sidebar, you've got 2 of my old blogs, and add my current one. The old ones are Tinkering with yarn, Arosebyandby....that one was hacked. You have a bunny? what is their name? How sweet, show us sometime.
ReplyDeleteYour cactus is beautiful, WoW! I love to play Wordle, I guess I'm an average player. I've hit it in 2 tries a couple of times, but mostly I average 4. It's fun and makes my mind work, which is what I need.
ReplyDeleteA big WOW on your cactus, it's looking lovely.
ReplyDeleteI've not tried Wordle, but a close friend of mine does it every day and enjoys it.
Enjoy your weekend.
All the best Jan
What a beautiful cactus!!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Sunday now :)
Love from a grey Sweden & Titti
I did not know fungus weakened trees either. Your blooming cactus is gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice cactus. I love the color. Mine died. I think my son gave them too much water when we were on vacation in the summer. So maybe I’ll buy a new one.
ReplyDeleteYes, mushrooms can make a tree sick. When mushrooms grow on a tree, it usually means the tree is decaying. Many mushrooms are parasites or saprobes, which feed off the tree’s nutrients. They break down the wood, causing it to rot and weakening the tree. In some cases, this can eventually kill the tree if the infection is severe enough.
Your cactus is lovely. My two have something wrong with them...probably me over-watering again :)
ReplyDeleteA few tips GM...so you are not annonymous. You should see when you go to comment, Comment as: you can copy & paste your URL in the bottom line, and your blog name in the top. Sometimes it prefills, sometimes not IDK why, blogger is quirky that way. As far as removing the old blogs of mine from the side bar, I don't recall a tool you mentioned, but this is how I do it. You have to go into your Designs/Layout, click on Layout. This will bring up where you can edit, add pictures etc. Find the place where you keep your blog friends, click on edit. It will bring up all of those blogs you follow, you may have to scroll down to see them. Find those two of blogs of mine, and click on the garbage can, it will delete them. You can also add new blogs from here, so please be sure to add my correct blog
ReplyDeleteso it will show up https://crochetbytheseaest2008.blogspot.com/. I hope this helps you out some & makes sense. My two old blogs were ARosebyandby, and Tinkering with yarn. Regarding the face on the corn husk doll, that is my Vintage Barbie in colonial clothes, the corn husk doll is smaller and to the right, she doesn't have a face, she is kind of hard to see in the picture.
I have a tiny Christmas cactus so no blooms yet. Yours is lovely.
ReplyDeleteYour son has quite the job with cutting up the tree that blew over. It must have been quite the storm.
ReplyDeleteThat Thanksgiving Cactus is absolutely beautiful! I've not seen one that color before. My red one that I started from a slip from my mother-in-law's is blooming now too. It has more bloom this year than last year. I have a white one upstairs that I need to bring down to the main floor because it is starting to show buds.
Every time I see that peachy cactus I tell myself that I will find one to grow here, and then I always forget. I just love it! If I go.... right now.... and write it down... I did it! Maybe I won't forget now.
