Bleak November

These pictures that I took a few years ago show just how bleak things look now at the end of November.  The days are mostly cloudy and we lost an hour and 17 minutes of daylight this month. Sunrise today was at 7:33 and the sun will set at 4:19.

The paths at Willband were dry enough so we could walk there again yesterday. We only saw one dead goose. We stayed far away from it.   Avian flu is once again causing havoc for wild birds as well as domestic.  The impact on farmers whose flocks have been culled is enormous. There's even a case in our local hospital of a teenager that has been diagnosed with that strain of the flu although it was believed that it could not be transmitted to humans.

When the trail was partly under water.

I can't end my post on such a depressing note.  Here's a picture of my Amaryllis in bloom. I can't take credit for it's amazing flowers because it had all the buds when I bought it at the grocery store!

Thanks for visiting

  1. I'm so sorry about the dead goose and all the ill birds. This is terrible, also the case of the virus going to a human person.
This is fine, that your post is ending good and happy. So once everything will end happy, we have to believe this deep in our hearts. Even in darkness we are near the light.

  3. Beautiful Amaryillis and I like your poster.
We still have a lot of green, and a few colorful leaves on trees ther and there. Clean up continues here, and some are still without power after a week. We are fortunate.

  6. NOvember hasn't been so bleak here. In fact, it has been quite warm and the leaves are the prettiest yet. You do have a way with flowers, especially the beautiful amaryllis.

  7. I'm sorry about the local person being sick. The "experts" are being proven wrong all of the time. The amaryllis is gorgeous. I'm happy because my orchids are beginning to bloom again. They're so pretty and brighten up the mantel.
    Blessings and hugs,

  10. Here we are still enjoying the fall colors. Once they are gone and the sun doesn't come out I always find it to be rather depressing.
    Your amaryllis is gorgeous.

  11. Looks like that here today too, Cloudy and damp. All the leaves in the first picture looks like our yard. That last quote is so funny and so right!! Andee and I were talking this morning about the crazy words our iPhones can throw in. Sure pays to read over what you write before hitting send. :)

  13. I just bought a white Amaryllis today when I went a little out to the shop.
Here the farmers had to vaccinate their poultry but it is still there.

  15. Sunset at 4:13?? Wow. I think it sets here around 5:30 or maybe a little earlier, but you are quite a bit further north.
November is usually bleak here too, but this year has been quite different, warmer than usual so still a good bit of green.
