Monday again. The temperature was just 4* above freezing when we walked at 7 o'clock but now at noon it is 6C and the sun is trying to shine making it pleasantly bright outside.
On Saturday when we walked we found one of those fanny pack bags on the ground near the path. We picked it up and found that in it were 2 bottles of prescription antibiotics. Both bottles were full, in fact they had been bought just the day before. The man's name was on a pay slip in the bag but we felt it would be better just to return the drugs, bag and all, to the pharmacy that issued them. Which we did. I have to wonder how a person could be so careless though.
These cookies are like the ones we bought at the craft fair last week. I have made them in the past but not for years. I've copied a brief description from a recipe site.
Pfeffernüsse are traditional small German Christmas cookies spiced with black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon cloves, ground ginger, and nutmeg.
Here are some of the cookies my talented DIL has made for Christmas.
GD Kate works in an office but she used to work as a hairdresser. She comes to play Dominoes
( Mexican train) almost every Sunday afternoon and when anyone in the family needs a haircut she brings her "stuff" and does a great job too. I asked her to cut an inch or 2 off my hair this time.
DH and Middle son also got their hair cut.
That's enough chit chat. Time to get the laundry folded and put away.
Thanks for coming by
I just goy my laundry folded too. Tom will carry the basket upstairs. It's 1:00 and about time for lunch.
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking about my cookie baking and Christmas decorating, but it will wait until after Thanksgiving.
I enjoyed your Monday Chit Chat post :)
ReplyDeleteAren't the spices in Pfeffernüsse wonderful.
All the best Jan

You have done a very good deed by returning the medications. Surely it will already be in the hands of the person who lost them. You DIL has a lot of talent for decorating cookies!
ReplyDeleteWise decision to bring the pills back to the store.
ReplyDeleteI bake Pfeffernüsse cookies every year. We love them. Mine are soft though and the store ones I've had are hard.
Good, that you brought the strong medicine to the pharmacy!
ReplyDeleteIt becomes colder here also now. Time to prepare cakes an other beautiful things for Christmas and the spiritual time before. I LOVE these cakes!
That is a huge savings to have her cut your hair. I have had those cookies but never made them. I am sure the pharmacy called the person that was the a good thing.
ReplyDeleteCathy
Crazy that you found the prescriptions. Medications are so expensive i can't imagine losing them.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I bet that person freaked out when they found they had lost the meds!
ReplyDeleteThose cookies sound so good I may just have to try making some. And you GD is certainly multi-talented!
My Grandma used to make Pfeffernüsse cookies every Christmas. She was an amazing baker. I have to admit, they weren't my favorite cookie that she made. I prefer much sweeter, like the photo of your daughter-in-laws cookies. They are beautiful. Gosh, that would be handy to have a hairdresser in the family. I took Mom for a haircut last Friday. It gets more difficult every time we go as she is more confused and starting to have more mobility issues. She uses a walker but can still have balance problems. I cut Dennis's hair for him and used to cut the boys hair when they lived at home. Dennis hasn't gone to a "shop" for years. He got tired of coming home and having to have me trim it so above the ears matched. I do go to Great Clips. It's the least expensive and I have a very simple cut. I'm not coordinated to cut my own.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a good day and finished all of your laundry.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
My grandmother made Pfeffernusse each year, but my mom never did and I never have. They are delicious, though, especially with the glaze like you've shown. I hope the person who dropped the prescriptions has been able to get them safely home. Stay warm and cozy in the storm that's coming tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThose biscuits sound deliciously spicy :)
ReplyDeleteThose German cookies sound delicious. I may have to see if I can bake them. Mom and I play the same dominoes game whenever we get a chance.
ReplyDeleteSend your GD my way! I need a haircut so bad. Seriously, that is so nice that she can do that for family. She sounds like the sweethest granddaughter to come play dominoes wth you. My husband's cousin has a daughter that does hair, but she is so far away. But she is seriously good at it. I had a girl here that was good...but tried to go to her and she was no longer there. The girl I got then was okay. Just not quite the same.
ReplyDeletePfeffernüsse is one of my favorite holiday cookies. the ones your DIL made are sure beautiful! Just found out I have to cut back on my sugar intake....it's causing problems with my eyes. That's a tough thing right at holiday time, but I will endeavor to do my best. Take good care, Granny. Thanks for a great blog.
ReplyDeleteThe cookies are beautiful! I wish I had a hair cutter in the family! xo
ReplyDeleteOh those spice cookies 😍😍😍😍 great idea about the return of the fanny pack! Poor person! Neat about hairdresser in family
ReplyDeleteYou and your family are always up to some creative and productive endeavor -- often delicious and beautiful, too! My daughters and I used to trim each other's hair. Now I have to go pay a hairdresser every couple of months. I could wish I had folks like yours around more often to work together and for each other, but it's probably good that no one is baking cookies for me ;-)

What pretty cookies ! Your daughter in law is very talented!
