Wednesday Chit Chat

Yesterday's stormy weather brought down branches of all sizes in the park, even a tree that must have been over 30' tall which blocked the path until park workers came and cut it up.  Today all is calm and although the sun isn't shining it's not all that dismal out there. For a November day.

Thank you for all the comments on the fashions of the '40's.  I agree that dresses look lovely and feminine but are not as warm and cozy as jeans and a warm sweater. Then there's the problem of wearing pantihose. Ugh. Tights are fine for chilly weather but.....

Now that Halloween is over the stores are really getting all the Christmas things out on the shelves.  I won't be needing anything in the way of decor; maybe ingredients for those recipes I only make once a year.  I notice that I need to bake far less in the way of cookies now that a) the grown children don't eat like they used to and b) their partners bake or in the case of Middle Son, he's a better baker than I am and really enjoys trying different recipes.

Something that I noticed in a sale flyer is, of all things, an Advent calendar for dogs. Hand-decorated cookies made with human grade ingredients. 24 beautifully crafted cookies in festive shapes such as snowflakes  and reindeer, each sealed to preserve freshness. I wonder if there's one for cats. In any case Miss Kitty won't be getting one :)

I hope you are having a good week.  Thank you for coming by,  GM

  1. I wear dresses in summer with sandals, no hose. Come cool weather, I might wear a long dress with knee high socks or maybe leggings, but hose, ugh. Although most men seem to like the look of hose on women.
I bake very little at the holidays these days. My family are not big into sweets and the ones that are bake their own. So I might make mincemeat tarts, apple pie, and maybe one or two batches of cookies. So sad, because I love to bake! But we old folks don't need the calories.

  4. Yes, here in the UK all the Christmas Displays, gifts etc are on display.
I'm sure if there is an advent calendar for dogs, there is one for cats too :)

Happy Wednesday and end of the week wishes.

    All the best Jan

  5. I agree with Barbara (Elizabethd above) - ridiculous to think of Advent calendars for dogs. It means nothing to them, and is just another way of parting customers from their money.

  6. I never wear hose anymore. Sandals for me until the snow flies then it's knee socks and winter boots with my dresses! No one seems to care how it looks, and the older I get, neither do I. I don't bake much at all anymore and definitely don't need anymore decorations for Chirstmas. Piper and I do an advent calender for each other. We use mini-stockings that I've made each of us. Twenty-five stockings each, hung on a crocheted string. We enjoy finding things throughout the year to put into the stockings. Just little things, nothing expensive at all. Mostly from the Dollar Tree. I never had a Christmas stocking in my life until we started doing this about 3 years ago. It's fun!
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  7. I did have a good day. We left election woes behind and went to Whidbey Island to plant things. Digging in soil is good for the soul. And we spent the day with our son Jake and learned things about him that we never knew before. It was a great day.

  8. Yesterday Walmart had a lit Christmas tree on the way out. Copper would want all the treats at one time. He gets one every night when daughter eats.

  9. There seems to be all sorts of advent calendars out there. I need to get my baking supplies soon. Sometime I wait too long and the stores are out of what I need. Hope you have a great day!

  10. Advent for dogs, now that's different! I'm looking forward to decorating for Christmas, I shouldn't need a thing new, unless I see something that I just can't resist. ☺

  11. There are also pastry shops for dogs here. I wonder: Will there be so many pet owners who buy them? I suppose so, otherwise they wouldn't exist.

  12. All the shops have displayed Christmas decorations already. Here the weather is a real November weather cold and grey!
