Time Change and Bird Feeder

It's time change weekend. I find it takes me a while to adjust and like most people I wish we'd quit this twice a year foolishness.
I do notice how the days are drawing in. On the first day of October our day was 11 hours and 41 minutes long. Yesterday, the 31st, our day was 9 hours 57 minutes so the length of the days gets 1 hour and 44 minutes shorter in October.  In November we'll lose another hour and 17 minutes over the course of the month. In December we'll lose a mere 13 minutes only to start the cycle all over in January.

Last winter we put up an additional bird feeder in the coldest part of winter. Birds hardly ever dared to come and eat because a certain cat would be waiting for them. There's actually a picture with Miss Kitty sitting right in the feeder.

Dear Husband made another feeder and put it up this week. So far birds have not discovered it.
(Those are tin birds attached to the front edge).

This cute picture is from the internet.

Thanks for visiting

  2. Like you, I don't appreciate the time change at all. I am amazed at how early it is getting dark and of course, after tomorrow night, it will be even earlier. But we are ever so grateful for the lovely fall - and no snow in the forecast yet! I love your new bird feeder!

  3. I guess I am uncommitted about the time change. It happens.
Any way you look at it, November is here and it is colder and darker.

  5. I wish we would have daylight savings time year round. I do like it lighter in the afternoon. I find myself much lazier when it gets dark so early. We have had a stunning October and I'm so grateful about that. I'm sure the birds will be happy once they discover the new feeder.
    Blessings and hugs,

  11. We already had time change to winter last weekend. My husband went to get new bird feeders this afternoon while we are in the Netherlands he loves bird feeders!
We also have a threat in our garden! Two cats are looking for those poor birds.

  12. I don't mind the autumn change so much, but really dislike the spring one. And every year there is a great hullabaloo about not changing. Just decide, and do it!
I hope your new bird feeder attracts the birds. We have not yet put ours out for the winter. Maybe this weekend!

  14. I am sure you will have lots of visitors to that wonderful new feeder. Your hubby must be a talented guy! I try not to think about the time change. Since I am now retired it doesn't seem to matter much.

  15. Well done on the feeders for the birds... and it will be nice to watch them :-)
We had the first frost last night and I'm going to put the bird house up now too... I bought a lot of bird food.
It's good if the birds know where they can get something early.

  16. We enjoy feeding the birds here also. It is that time when the feeder goes up. I'm ready to cozy up and embrace the shorter days, (for now) I'll get a bit ansy in February.

  17. Kitty likes to look live-TV :)))

We also feed our garden-birds, and my neighbor's cats look TV and dream of hunting!!!

Good idea from DH! The birds will be thankful!

Yes, now we have to encourage now to go direct into the mystery of darkness.

  18. Time changes ...ugh! I'm like you, it takes me a bit to get adjusted to the new time. Earlier dark time hours mean longer evenings, but I'm going to be starting some crocheting projects before long. So that will help. :)

That's such a nice bird feeder that your husband made! It's also the same color as some of the bird houses that my husband made a few years ago.

  19. Your husband makes really nice bird feeders. Our winter birds are beginning to arrive now. I don't mind this time change. I wish they would just leave it alone.
