This is a windy and very wet morning. Nothing much to blog about ( laundry and housework are not terribly interesting). How about something different?
What were women wearing in the 1940's? Dresses had padded shoulders and nipped in waists, A-line skirts came down to the knee.
If a woman was not naturally an hourglass shape, the clothes were
designed to help her achieve the look. Being put together, cheerful, and
practical was the job of women during WWII. 1940s fashion accessories
such as hats, gloves, handbags, and jewelry completed an outfit. Here are some images from the 'net.
. Do you wish we'd go back to wearing dresses all the time?
Thanks for visiting
Re: your comment on my blog.I got the grapevine heart, not I can finish up my Crinoline lady. There are many components to the little cottage, I like to think of the appliques as crochet coloring. They bring the background alive. I hope I finish it, I made the door today. As for the fashions I just love them. I try to wear dresses & skirts, they are my preference. The ladies of those times always looked lovely and feminine. I can't get passed the pantyhose/nylon thing though, UGH! not a fan!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny to me how overdressed women looked back then. I'm so glad I don't have to wear heels anymore. I like dresses now and then, but practically live in jeans so, no I don't wish to go back to dresses.
ReplyDeleteNo thank you, no dreses for me anymore.
ReplyDeleteLaundry and housework here too. The rain has now let up but it's still breezy.
I like wearing dresses in the Summer. I remember my mother is just those types of dress!
ReplyDeleteLadies were definitely more "put together" in the 40s. I wouldn't mind wearing dresses all the time, if I were in better shape.
ReplyDeleteGranny, this is Fran. I like to wear a dress, but mostly wear pants. I am so frequently working outside in the yard and pants seem to work better out there!
ReplyDeleteShifferdiane, here on IG wears a lot of vintage clothing, if you want to take a look at her account. 😁
Mary, of course! they were very feminine.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of instagram people that are following that life style and dress.

No thanks, now that I've retired from work, I'm almost always in jeans and a teeshirt or sweatshirt.

It was fun seeing the old fashions.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful clothing and just how my Mom used to dress outside the house. At home it was usually slacks and blouse. I wear dresses all of the time. They are just comfortable for me.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
I like wearing dresses but wouldn't want to all the time. They can be chilly. I remember having to wear dresses to school as a child and wearing slacks underneath to walk to school, then taking them off in the cloakroom. Pure silliness.
ReplyDeleteThe 40s style is lovely and I do wish we all took a bit more care in our presentation to the world. But life and culture change and we go along changing, too.
I'm very happy wearing whatever I like...mostly jeans, or leggings and a tunic which is nearly a dress I suppose.
ReplyDeleteI cannot remember the last time I wore a dress! I sure enjoyed seeing these.
ReplyDeleteI am wearing a dress right now, and this past summer I often wore them. Just so comfy! Mine are loose, though, not nearly so tailored.
ReplyDeleteIt's maybe a NEW fashion now :)
ReplyDeleteI remember this time - it was a time of good hope for a new start..
Yes, I do. There's something about wearing dresses that naturally causes me to feel more feminine. I've actually been contemplating doing so for a while now. I love the style of the dresses from that era...hard to find them like that anymore.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm a minority, but yes I would love to go back to those days. I think those dresses are so ladylike and absolutely lovely.
ReplyDeleteI like to wear dresses and find some for the summer, but hard to find some in winter.
ReplyDeleteI remember wearing trousers in winter at school but underneath a skirt it was forbidden to wear trousers without a dress or a skirt! So silly!
I love that era, fashion and movies were great. The fashion was certainly more 'lady-like' than today. As for me, I don't think I've worn a dress but a few times since I retired. I like dresses, so I can't figure myself out. lol Hope your day is happy and blessed.☺♥
ReplyDeleteI recall my mother wearing similar styles throughout the 1950's when I was growing up. Her everyday wear was styled similarly but in percale prints designated as 'house dresses.' She owned several pairs of slacks which she wore in cold weather if she needed to be outdoors. I'm a jeans person most of the time, sometimes alternating with denim skirts. My 'church clothes' are either dresses or skirts and jackets. Its good to have choices.
ReplyDeleteOh no...I have only one dress for winter but some cool ones for summer.. I remember when my mother in law only wore pants to scrub her kitchen floors:) I like T Shirts and sweat pants or capris depending on the weather:)
