Advent calendars

We had a big storm pass through during the night. Apparently 90,000 homes were without power.
We slept through it all and  didn't notice a thing.

It's a quiet day. Not much to blog about so let's talk about Advent calendars . I keep seeing them on
FB Marketplace and I see there are many. This first one caught my eye and I meant to go back and read more about it but it disappeared so quickly that I didn't get the chance. All I do remember about it is that it is lighted (lit?) and cost over a hundred dollars. Someone didn't mind the price because it got snapped up pretty quickly.

The next one looks fairly simple. It had little drawers that you can put small items into and reuse it from year to year.

I'm not sure how this jigsaw puzzle becomes an Advent calendar.

I like this one with its little drawers. The scene in the middle lights up. It was priced at $30.

I remember how my children enjoyed Playmobil way back when. No doubt they would have liked this calendar which was never even opened and is now for sale for $20.

I hope your week is going along nicely. Those who are gearing up for Thanksgiving are probably very busy.

Thanks for visiting.

  4. Sorry to hear about your power. We've been inside a lot too this month. It helps that we just got a new cabinet painting in our kitchen to make it feel a little better being inside. But I can't wait to get out again. Thanks for sharing this lovely blog post.

So many different kinds of advent calendars. I like the first one best.

  6. I like those calendars with the little drawers! I bought an advent calender for us for the very first time this year. It has German chocolates! I found it at Aldi's and was so thrilled.
I also have one for sale in my booth. It is made of galvanized metal in the shape of a house. There is nothing in it, but I think that you are supposed to put little wrapped gifts in the cubbies. I thought to use it but it is kinda big and I don't have a place to put it.

  7. I heard about the "bomb cyclone" that hit the northwest. Seattle seems to have been pretty affected.
I made Piper and myself advent calendars out of mini-stockings that I knitted. They are from a baby sock pattern. Each year I fill her stockings (25 of them), with the 25th having a bit nicer gift for Christmas day. She and Mandy fill mine! We have so much fun with it. Weve been doing this for about 4 years now. I never had a stocking as a child as it wasn't something our family did for some reason.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  8. I enjoy sending out Advent Calendars to family and friends. We have them here for most of our states and they feature items from businesses in that state in the little boxes that you open. So if you really like something in the calendar, you can go to that business and buy more of whatever it is. They're very popular. All the items are edible from chocolates to popcorn to maple syrup. They're all being shipped this week.

  9. Too bad about your power, hope it wasn't off too long. We got some snow during the night; and it looks like a fair amount a debris from tree blew about so apparently it was windy. I remember buying a few cute Advent calendars for my nephews when they were young. They were fun, but all much more simple than those in your pictures. I'm too am curious about the puzzle one.

  12. Advent calendars can be a lot of fun. Some are heirlooms, or could be, like the first one you showed. I made a simple Christmas tree with ornaments to pull out of pockets each day for our children. The pockets also held treats or note about special events. Everything seems much more elaborate these days.

  15. I have an advent cabinet. You open it up and it is full of numbered drawers. I always filled them with treats and sometimes a dollar or two. Fun memories with my kids.
