Saturday Musing

It's another very wet day. We noticed on our walk how the water level is rising. Fortunately the path is raised. We also noticed that many of our winter friends are back on the lake: Shovelers, Scaups, Buffleheads, we even spotted 2 Pied-Billed Grebes.

Abbotsford has a large East Asian population and they are currently celebrating Diwali which is also known as Festival of Lights.  Many of their homes are decorated with Christmas lights and it's lovely to see. This past week we noticed a lot of fireworks being set off. At first I thought it was someone who was using up leftover Halloween fireworks but then it dawned on me that it was all part of Diwali celebrations.

Remember my trip to the thrift store this past week?  Here's the rest of my treasure trove....

I collect pot holders and these cat ones are so sweet. They're actually big enough to use as place mats for tea time (which we never fail to have daily).  The butterfly ones just need ribbon attached to the corners so I can hang them up.  The red ones are already hanging in my kitchen.

This last treasure I've put aside until I decorate for Christmas.  For .50 I wasn't about to leave it behind.

Teacup # 28

  1. We are having an unseasonably warm day here for the prairies with a sunny high of 16C so I have just come inside from puttering in the flowerbeds where the weeds have seemingly snuck in this past month! You really scored with all those pot holders. Your Christmas crossword "puzzle" is similar to what I am now in the process of making, also with scrabble tiles, but with the names of our 9 grandchildren. It was actually not as easy as I thought it would be! This latest cup and saucer is ever so lovely!

  3. I love that teacup! Half-timbered houses always give me such good warm feelings. I think the homes are so beautiful. In New Orleans, someone had such a house built. I used to bike over and see it. Your pot holder collection is wonderful! Especially that one to use in the microwave. I've noticed how how plates get now.

  5. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the migratory water fowl that occupy our ponds in winter. My potholders are in a rather pitiful condition so I would never think of hanging them.

  6. I love that teacup with the thatched house and cottage garden. So pretty. You found some good potholders - they are something that wear out so quickly.

  8. Your cups keep getting better & better! Wow. I'd like having a set of these.

And of the pot holders, I like the red best. Just country charm.

I made an outdoor wall plaque with Scrabble tiles long ago for my daughter...it had her house address.

  13. What is the teacup beautiful ... for spinning fairy tales - I don't know why, but it makes me think of the gingerbread house in Hansel and Gretel ... beautiful pot holders. Greetings from Viola

  14. Really nice treasures you found. I especially like the tea cup. There is just something about flowers and a thatched cottage that makes tea time especially cozy.

  17. That teacup is so sweet. You see so many with flowers, but very rarely one with a cottage on it -- lovely.
