Blast from the Past

Just for fun let's look back at prices in the "good old days". I have no idea what years these ads came out but they amused me and I thought they were worth posting on this rather dull, wet day.

I had a metal doll house just like the one in this ad except mine had a blue roof.

  1. Violets are my birth flower so this cup set was a special treat.

I'm old enough to remember gas at 25 ¢ a gallon!!!

  6. I had a doll house like that too! I loved it so much. I sometimes think about how hard my dad worked to buy us things like toys.

  7. GOrgeous cup today. My favorite color of purple so I especially like this one.
Those prices! I laughed at the 48C tea set. How I wish the prices were still this good.

  8. This is the happy style of my childhood! I remember it was a time of hopeful breakup -

This doll house is so nice. Today toys are different.

  9. Hi G.M....Yes, it is amazing what the prices of things were once back in the day...I can remember a time back in school when a meat pie cost 10 cents from the School Canteen and a packet of toy soldiers were 40 cents. Those were the days! Best Wishes. KEV.

  10. I loved looking at all those old ads - sure hard to believe those prices! Interesting about the "Noah layaway plan" too. This last teacup is stunning but then I am definitely partial to violets!

  11. My sister and I had prams/buggies of a similar shape to the one shown in the ad for toys, but they were metal, with canvas or plastic hoods to raise up and down. They were blue and white. We used them a lot, parading our baby dolls up and down the street. Fun memories.

  17. How exciting to see the ad for the doll house -- because mine was exactly like that!! I know where my parents bought mine from, but can't remember the name of the store since it was back in the 1960s! Wouldn't it be great if the Colonel would bring back those 85¢ snack boxes! Wow, what a deal that was!

  18. I love looking back at old ads like these. Hard to believe the prices compared to prices today. I never had a dolls house but had the tea sets and little cook sets, oh and the cutlery set.
