I enjoy discovering things like Christmas linen or platters that I forgot I had, packed away after last Christmas. Each one is like an old friend.
The Advent wreath also had to be brought out and set on the table in the sunroom. I found I had 3 pink candles but lacking a purple one for the 4th Sunday Advent, I used a white one. Until this year I just used 4 red candles or even white ones. If you use a Advent wreath, do you go by the special candle colours?
We had snow and freezing rain in the night Sunday to Monday and the paths around the lake were still slippery. I hung on to DH as we walked and that worked out fine. We saw 2 Eagles cuddled up close to each other in the tree they most often choose. It was like they were trying to keep warm. We also saw many Shovelers and again I noticed that they swam in circles. I googled this behaviour and found that they cooperate by swimming around and each duck does its part by stirring up food for the duck behind it. I find that so interesting.
I didn't have my camera so the pictures below are off the internet.
Thanks for visiting today, G.M.
I don't like the cold... so instead of 'hanging onto a hand' I'd prefer to be snuggled under a quilt.
ReplyDeleteWe have the freezing rain and snow today. Only an inch or so of snow, but the freezing rain is making the roads very treacherous. I usually buy candles for advent for the next year during the after Christmas sales. I don't have an Advent wreath this year as I'm unsure where to put one in the apartment. However, we have one at church and I enjoy listening to the scriptures read along with the lighting of the candles each Sunday during Advent.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and love,
Betsy
Unwrapping cheerful Christmas decorations sounds like a great way to brighten up the cold weather you are now experiencing. Have fun finding a place to put them all :)
ReplyDeleteI have dishes with the same Christmas pattern as the one on the tree in your first photo.
ReplyDeleteNo fun walking in icing conditions.
Hi Granny, for our Advent Wreaths we usually use 3 purple candles and 1 pink one for the 3rd week, which is Gaudete Sunday....or Rejoice Sunday for the Lord is near.
ReplyDeleteI will be unpacking my Santas tomorrow, and yes, rediscovering my dear old friends.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that avout Shovelers. We have them on the lagoon at the Whidbey cabin.
The ducks are so good together! Wonderful, that you discovered their way of helping each other. Nice to hear about you and your dear husband having together your morning-walks. So you are strong. What a rich fairytale-house you have to find "old friends" for your Christmas-decoration! Many houses are too clean and you cannot find any surprises. I have four different candles for my advent-wreath.
ReplyDeletePhalarope birds do the same behavior. It's really cool to have a flock of them on the lake doing the turn-around feasting.
ReplyDeleteI like your Christmas Decorations G.M. My Chris put up our little Christmas Tree the other week as last Monday we had our Dear Friends visit for CHRISTMAS Tea- we had a lot of fun, laughs and good company. Best Wishes. KEV.
ReplyDeleteOh, real winter weather! I love the ducks pictures. I think it would be very nice to see them. Be careful outside with the slippery and cold.
ReplyDeleteI bought a few mini magic houses with Christmas lights for the windowsill. Those long dark evenings make me really sad. When the sun goes down at half past four (16:30) I turn on the houses and it's so funny to see the little lights shining. They are battery operated. I'm happy with it. Everything is very expensive in the Netherlands, so we try not to be too much on the electricity grid with the Christmas lights, but on batteries. How is that in your area? Gas and electricity are almost unaffordable for many people in The Netherlands.
Wish you a nice Wednesday.
I love unwrapping Christmas decorations 🎄❤️ how neat about the ducks! I did not know that!!🥰
ReplyDeleteI also discover Xmas decorations I forgot about and it is always a pleasure
ReplyDeleteTo find them. I did not know about the ducks .
