Happy Thursday

We're having typical Fall weather: wind, rain, sunshine, sometimes all three in a single day. The rain ceased long enough on Halloween for the children to go trick or treating.  Once it was dark I watched some fireworks being set off  on the school ground not far from us.  It was nice to enjoy them from the warmth of the house. I don't think I ever saw fireworks as a child so now I enjoy them all the more.

What are you reading these days? I was tired of mystery novels and have turned to Miss Read for some simple enjoyable reading. This week I'm reading The Last Chronicle of Fairacre which includes  Changes at Fairacre, Farewell to Fairacre, and A Peaceful Retirement.  I try to get any housework and shopping done in the mornings to free up the afternoon for reading. That only works in winter but winter is the best time to snuggle under a quilt and enjoy a  good book.
That's it for today. I hope you have a great day,  GM

  1. It's getting harder for me to work outside, but Tom is getting lots done, getting things ready for the cold weather soon to come. His works makes me feel both glad and guilty.
I'm still reading the Nevada Barr "Anna Pigeon" novels. I just started # 15 out of 17.

  2. Curled up with a book by a winter fire is so cosy. I'm currently reading 'Glenshee: Glen of the Fairies' about the history of a particular Scottish glen. It takes me ages to read something, so this book is great as I can easily pick it up at odd times and it doesn't matter if I have forgotten what I've already read!! Love your illustrations today :)

  3. I have yet to see a Miss Read book but am keeping my eyes open for them as you have mentioned them before. Today I took out the Christmas novels that I have collected over this past year and I also took out my Christmas CD's and thought of you and wondered when you were going to start listening to Christmas music as it seems to me that you usually are earlier than I am. I sorted through my CD's and am getting rid of some as I purchased some new ones this week at the local thrift store.

  4. I'm reading The Victory Garden by Rhys and liking it. I will be reading a Miss Read book in the next couple of days. Have requested the first Fairacre book at the library. Have one last book to read of the Thrush series.

  6. I think we have another week of warm weather before much colder weather moves in. I still have a couple of outdoors projects I am hoping to finish. Your plan to snuggle under a quilt and read this winter sounds great to me. I have just begun reading Out of Africa. I have seen the movie several times but have never read the book. Isak Dinesen is a wonderful writer. I am not a fast reader either, instead just letting each word and line kind of sink in as I go.

  7. We've had some wonderful fall weather here. Temperatures very warm in the upper 70's for what seems like weeks. However, tonight a cold front is moving in and it's only supposed to be 44F tomorrow with rain too. We need the rain, so no complaints here. I'll be staying in as much as possible. I haven't had time to pick up a book in ages, but we have a fantastic library right here in the building with many books I've been looking at. I think after the holidays I may try to do more reading instead of crocheting/knitting. Or at least try to strike a balance of some sort between the two. I have two sweaters left to knit for Christmas though so I won't be reading anytime soon.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  8. Enjoyed the darling graphics today. Here it's the opposite...winter is for being outdoors. Mostly balmy pleasant days...while summer is book reading times 'cause of the heat.

I just bought a newly published book Paul Newman.

  10. The Miss Read books are ones to return to over and over. Such lovely tales of time gone by. Afternoon reading is a good motivation to get the chores finished in the morning. Stay dry!
