Baking and more

It's a very wet day, perfect for baking. I made a lemon loaf using Ina Garten's recipe. It turned out but I've noted on my copy of the recipe that next time I'll decrease amount the amount of oil and maybe bake it 5 minutes longer. It's fall-apart moist.

I'm still using up the apples that DH brought home.  Apple crisp in ramekins ...perfect size for desserts.

We did the grocery shopping this morning and as usual there were items ( on sale) that were difficult to find. That happens almost every week.  We came home and DIL had left a note that Miss Kitty had left a half-eaten bird at the back door,  DH went to deal with it and also noticed a dead rat nearby. She must have killed that too. I'm not distressed about the rat but I wish she'd quit hunting birds.

Thanks for visiting, GM

I posted that I cannot leave a comment on the following blogs:

Now I'm sad to say Happy@Home is also blocking me.

Please know that I'm reading these blogs faithfully and will keep trying. Maybe one day something will change and I'll once again be able to comment.

It seems all the 'problem' blogs have the same blue rectangle that says Sign in with Google. Well, I am signed in. It's frustrating.

  1. I had the same problem last year. It eventually righted itself but is so annoying. Your lemon cake looks delicious.

  2. Hi GM, your lemon loaf looks delicious! I have a big bag of apples too. A local orchard was selling them at a terrific price as we had a bout of hail just before they were picked. Some have small holes in them but nothing too bad. Grocery shopping is definitely frustrating these days. Our No Frills had 10kg bags of flour on for $7.77 starting today so I was right there at 8:00. I have learned the hard way to go right away on the first day of the sale. I have been having trouble commenting on blogs too. Now I just sign my name at the end of the comment and push publish without signing in. Hopefully it continues to work!😆😆

  3. That lemon loaf looks and sounds delicious.
I share your sentiments on the rat and bird. Poor little birdy :)
I'm sorry to hear that my blog has become a problem for you. I haven't changed anything on this end. I know how frustrating those issues can be and appreciate that you are still visiting, although I do miss your comments.

  6. O Kitty is a hunter! I know this from Biau and from Puma .. My dear husband once said: "It's their task!".. I'm sorry for the bird and somehow for the rat, too. But I think humans are much more terrible robbers. In heaven will be peace forever..

    Many greetings from Dori

  8. I made apple crisp last night, served with whipped cream. A cold or rainy day is inspiration for baking.

  9. Lemon loaf AND apple crisp? Two of my favorites. Yum! I'm always surprised when I see empty shelves at the grocery store. It just seems so strange.

  10. Your lemon loaf and apple crisps look delicious as usual. I bet your house smelled good too, when you baked them. That's the only thing I don't miss about cats...when they leave creatures at the door.

  11. That's terrible that some blogs won't let you leave a comment, there has to be a way to fix that but I sure don't know what it is. A piece of the lemon cake sure would be good with my morning coffee, but alas, I'm still having to watch my sugar intake due to my sugar levels being high. Hopefully I can stay off of meds if I watch my diet. It's sure not fun. :( ☺♥

  12. The lemon loaf looks delicious as do the apple crisps in the ramekins! I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you are having leaving comments. I know the first time you tried to comment on my blog that you said you tried three times before it let you comment. I hope everything gets resolved for you soon.

  13. I really should make some kind of lemon dessert -- I had to pick all the lemons from my tree. Or, I could juice and zest them and freeze the parts like that. Your loaf does look good. I had the opposite problem the last time I made Lemon Bread from a James Beard recipe. It was awfully dry, and not very sweet. I liked the level of sweetness but made a note not to use that recipe again.

  14. Rainy, dreary days always seem to be the best days for baking, don't they? I don't know what's going on in the blogging world but I've had several people let me know that they can't leave comments on my blog. Frustrating...

  16. Another blogger said she solved the comment issue by using Chrome. Chrome is the program I use to publish. Could that be the problem?
