Thanks for all the comments on the kitchens. I've talked about painting ours here but DH very sensibly tells me that it would be awful to paint solid oak cupboards. He's probably right. Eldest once lived in a small house with a tiny kitchen. She painted the cupboards mustard yellow and they were stunning.
Miss Kitty has been up to mischief again. Twice this week we've found a dead bird. I feel really bad about it but cats do what cats are genetically programed to do no doubt. Typing the word genetically made me think of something I read on line this week. I checked it out and it seems to be true. How do you feel about GMO foods? Do you buy organically grown?
Why Some Apples Are Sold With Stickers And What It Signifies
All organically grown produce will have a 5 digit PLU code starting with 9. The remaining 4 digits are the same as the conventionally grown version.
Similarly, an "8" as the first of a five-digit code indicates genetically-modified produce
That's it for today. Thanks for visiting.
Good to know!
ReplyDeletePoor birds, but you're right. Cats do what cats do. Interesting about the apple codes. I hadn't heard that before.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Granny, the question remains whether GM foods will harm us over the years. In medicine, very good and economical drugs have been achieved, such as: insulin, growth hormone and coagulation factor, which are used to treat serious diseases and alterations in people that were previously very rare and expensive. Today, transgenic bacteria and yeasts, modified with genes for human proteins, produce these compounds in a very economical way and in great abundance.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great point, I'd never thought of that! I think the concern with food though is there's far less oversight for farmers and produce than on pharmaceuticals.

We buy organic when we can get it. The H.G. Wells quote is so very true!
ReplyDeleteWe have wood cabinets, our home built in 1951. When we moved here I wanted to paint them, it was a pain to keep the paint on them, peeling etc. We finally took them all down, removed everything, and restained them. I like the look of real wood. It is part of the character of the home.
ReplyDeleteI have no problem with GM foods. It's how we are able to feed the world.
ReplyDeleteI don't try too hard to find organic things. It feels like playing whack a mole. There is always something.
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of painting cabinets....especially oak! Oak are not the be all-end all they used to be...they have become outdated. I tried for years to get my friend to paint hers...to no avail. It dated her kitchen so much! I say....if you want to paint them...by all means! You will love how fresh & clean your space will be!
ReplyDeleteI do try to buy organic when possible! Sorry about the dead birds, but as you say, cats do what cats do. xx
ReplyDeleteI don't pay much attention to organic foods, other than locally grown during the summer:) Yes cats are hunters and only get the slow or dumb birds:)
ReplyDeleteI've painted oak wood cabins when we lived in town. I just didn't like the wood and wanted a white kitchen. I never regretted it.
ReplyDeleteWe buy organic but don't got out of our way to buy it.
That's good information. I am turning more and more to organic but I recognize that it's the GM grains that are helping to feed a world caught up in famine. I guess time will tell.
ReplyDeleteO Kitty! It's not her fault to be a cat. Hope, that the birds had a fast end.. and now are in heaven. All creatures have a desire for salvation, says St. Paul in his letter (number 8). I have a wooden kitchen my friend has a blue one, very nice. I prefer fruits from garden and naturally trees.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, but prefer to buy organic when I can.
ReplyDeleteCats and birds...I guess just nature doing its thing. But I still hate it when our guy catches a bird.
I buy organic when I can. Have you ever watched the documentary, Food, inc.? Interesting info about our food industry. I have also wanted to paint my oak cabinets, but just never did.
