This and That

Thursday already and half of January past!  The month sure is going by quickly ( which is good because we're ever closer to Spring).
I tried 2 new recipes this week. The first was an Oatmeal bar and it turned out rather dry. I won't be making it again. The second one was one of my Impossible Pies that I so like making. This one is a lemon flavour and I can't decide how much I like it. The recipe called for 1/4 cup of lemon juice and in addition I added a few drops of lemon extract. Even so the lemon is hardly noticeable.

We finished this puzzle. Although it had only 400 pieces they were odd shapes and all those gingerbread men were a challenge.  This morning there were about 20 pieces left. Now it's done.

I was browsing Pinterest again and saw some pretty sewing/quilting projects that I liked.

Aren't they pretty?  Thanks for visiting today. Have a lovely Friday.

  1. Those quilted pieces give me an idea of what I might do with the quilt squares I occasionally make out of fabric scraps instead of a quilt of wall hanging.

  2. I've had the same issue with some lemon recipes. Maybe adding some lemon zest along with the juice? I can see where the puzzle would give me a challenge, so many pieces with LIKE colors. It sure is pretty though. Those are some nice quilting projects. Everyone needs a mug rug.

  4. Cakes or tarts with lemon are delicious and generally light because the baking powder and lemon make the crumb very airy.
For some things it is good for time to pass quickly but for others it is NOT! Age for example... hehe!

  6. It sounds like you've had an eventful week with some fun kitchen experiments and puzzles! I can totally understand the disappointment with the oatmeal bars, but it's great that you gave the Impossible Pie a go, even if the lemon flavor wasn't as strong as you'd hoped. It must have been satisfying to finish that tricky gingerbread puzzle too, especially with those oddly shaped pieces!

Your Pinterest browsing sounds promising. It’s always nice to get inspired by new sewing or quilting projects. I hope you find something you’re excited to try!

Wishing you a lovely rest of the week. If you have time, feel free to visit my latest post at www.melodyjacob.com. Stay cozy and creative as we inch closer to spring!

  7. The pie looks delicious but I'm sorry that it didn't taste as good as you had hoped. I've never tried an impossible pie. That sure is a cute puzzle though and I KNOW it would drive me batty. I'm not a "puzzler" at all.
Now those quilting projects are a different story. It makes me want to get at my sewing machine again and make some of them. However, quilting frustrates me often. I'm not precise enough. Or to be honest, have enough patience to get the points and corners as exact as you have to.
    Have a great Friday!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. This is good weather for baking! I thought I would do some today, but ended up making spiced pear jam. I used my canned pears, so kinda cheated but it sure is good.
I wish I could do crosswords but I get obsessive about them and will stay up all night, literally, if I have one. Silly, but there it is.
I love those quilted pieces! Especially the first one.

The sewing work is great. Thanks for showing it - I also sewed some small cup coasters - it's a lot of fun.
Best wishes to you from Viola.

  12. Those little quilts are cute. When I bake a cake with lemon I added grated rind and juice to have more flavor. Yes, January is going very quickly!
