This and That

The family that lives in this house decorates for Halloween in a big way every year.  I noticed that the house is for sale so this may be the last year I walk by on my way to the park.   I won't miss the gruesome displays.

This is the little cookbook for children that my ill-fated fruit bread recipe came from.

And here is the very dense 'brick' that was the final result.
The bread doesn't even make good toast.

My pumpkin pies, on the other hand, turned out just fine.  In case you didn't know, this is the weekend we in Canada celebrate Thanksgiving.  I'm all set!!

Thanks for coming by.  Have a blessed Sunday!!

  1. Oh my gosh! I hope your new neighbors are a little more conservative in their decorations! Sorry about the fruit bread, but I'd love some of that pumpkin pie!

  2. What do you think was the problem with the bread-brick? Does it have gumdrops in it?

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. No gumdrops. That's glaced fruit ( the kind used for Christmas cake). I really don't know what the problem was but the mixing directions ( which I actually followed this time) were somewhat unusual, so maybe that was it?

I love pumpkin pie but try to save the joy for Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. You get to eat pumpkin pie now!

  5. Halloween is my least favorite holiday I think. I love decorating for fall and do a little bit of Halloween for our littles and that's it. I don't like the ghoulish or scary displays either. So sad your bread didn't turn out but those pies are picture perfect! Happy Thanksgiving!

  6. Your pies look wonderful! The fruity bread even looks good! OOOh I wouldn't like having a neighbor that decorates for Halloween like that. The way people decorate for Halloween nowadays, really makes me dislike the holiday, that used to be such fun. It seems to have become so demonic. What a shame. Maybe you'll get new neighbors sometime soon?

  8. Your bread sounds like my biscuits from scratch! I can bake pies and have lovely flaky pie crusts, I can make yeast rolls, I can make cornbread....but I cannot make biscuits from scratch for love nor money. LOL It has been a while since I have made pumpkin pies...that is one thing I love the smell of.

  10. Oh my goodness that display! I have to admit I am glad that people don't go quite so mad here about Halloween. When I was a child I don't think it was even really heard of.

  12. You just don't know how badly I would like to have a piece of pumpkin pie. I may make one tomorrow, and it's not even Thanksgiving here.

  13. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, GM! The pies look delicious. I'm eager for Thanksgiving here and all that comes with it. I agree about gruesome Halloween. I don't like it much either.

  14. I hate you bread turned out bad. It looks pretty. It had to have been the recipe. I can't imagine anyone going to that much trouble for Halloween. Hope your Thanksgiving was a happy one.
