A Bird and a Leaf

I had a lovely walk this morning. DH was gone to his volunteering 'job' and I took my time. Sat on a bench by the lake and watched this little bird for a long time. I sat still and it came quite close as it pecked for breakfast(?).

This leaf captured my attention. It was lying with its white side up. I turned it over to see what that side looked like.  It looks like a Maple leaf but I've never noticed Maple leaves to be white on the back. Maybe someone can enlighten me. There's so much I wish I knew about nature.  Whether it's birds or trees/leaves.

I hope you had a good day too!!

Thanks for coming by,  GM

  1. That maple leaf also showed up on the gardening group I belong to on Facebook. Silver Maple someone said. I think I remember having those trees with that white leaf when we lived on Matsqui Prairie near Clayburn Village. They were a weed tree and sent shoots up in the lawn.

  3. Hmmm...A Silver Maple? I only think that because I actually saw my 1st one ever the other day, it caught my eye because it was shimmering in the sunshine. I looked it up, they are green on one side and light colored on the back. I took a picture I'll have to post it. I thought it was so pretty.

  5. Well, it certainly looks like a maple leaf, but there are several types. I just Google everything myself, lol. We seem to have a lot of juncos in our yard. Happy trails to you!

  6. It looks a bit like a type of Maple leaf to me.

Sounds like you had a lovely spot to sit and enjoy nature for a while.

  7. How nice of the bird to cooperate with you! I would have loved to be sitting there just watching, too. I don't know why that leaf is so white on the back...that is sort of strange.

  8. I saw an ornamental maple this summer that was red on the top and white on the underside. It looked about like that one.

  9. Wish I could have been sitting on the bench with you. I love watching nature. I've never seen a leaf like that, even though it does look like a maple.

  11. Toomorrow if nothing happens I will take pictures of leaves here...there are a bunch that are partially white. (Knowing my luck it will rain) I don't ever remember seeing them so white before. I thought I had seen them with some white...

  13. That is a strange leaf! Maybe it was bleached by the sun? Interesting. We don't have as many maples down here.
