This Lily which may or may not be a Tiger Lily, appeared in this unlikely spot right at the edge of the flowerbed many years ago. No idea how it got here; I don't remember ever buying one but every year it blooms for our enjoyment. I have had to tie it back a bit because it leans forward and I'm afraid someone will walk too close and break off a stem. I wonder if, in tying it up, I brushed against the stamens. When GD Kate came over she took one look at me and blurted out "What's the matter with your face?" Needless to say we all had a good laugh then explained what must have left yellow streaks of pollen on my face. (It came off quite easily but I'm left wondering how in the world my DH or I hadn't noticed???)
We got some rain. Not enough but every bit helps. Unfortunately the huge blooms on the Hydrangeas hung down as they got soaked and I know from other years that they won't lift themselves up very well.
Last of all here's Miss Kitty peering in the screen door and looking what we're up to.
Thanks for coming by.
The hydrangeas are wonderful,
ReplyDeleteso are the lilies that if you walk past them leave a yellow footprint!!
The Tiger Lily is a gorgeous garden volunteer.
ReplyDeleteIs that an Annabelle hydrangea, I wonder. I know they tend to flop in the rain. Beautiful blooms though.
ReplyDeleteLily pollen goes all over the place - and I had a chuckle at your experience! Poor hydrangea, but still beautiful even when drooping.
ReplyDeleteMittens says hello-purrrr to Miss Kitty (she is sitting on my chair looking over my shoulder!). Mxx
The lily is a beauty! My hydrangea is the same. I should tie it up before it blooms but I never remember.
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe they are tiger lilies.
ReplyDeleteFunny about the pollen!
lilies and hydrangeas, oh yes! It's their time.
ReplyDeleteMy recurved orange tiger lilies are just opening up now as well. Like yours, mine lean over quite far too - right into the pathway which means I get pollen on myself as well. I have just finished removing all the little black seeds that grow at the base of the leaves as I don't want mine to spread but I have no doubt missed a few while others have already fallen to the ground. I'm glad you got some rain. We are needing some too!

Miss Kitty is probably trying to get you to come outside with her. The last two cats we had liked nothing better than for us to go sit on the porch with them. You could see the contentment in their face.
ReplyDeleteYour hydrangeas are beautiful! As are the lilies.
Oh I love your orange lily. My mom used to have tiger lilies so it brings back good memories to me of my childhood. I'm glad to hear that you got a little rain, even if it's not enough. That kitty sure is cute....and nosey too!
ReplyDeleteWe used to eat tiger lillies when I was a kid. I''m surprised I survived! :-) I've had the pollen get all over everything but I am surprised neither of you noticed. :-)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Love your Miss Kitty...and the blooms are absolutely gorgeous!

Pretty Tiger Lilies, I used to have some, the deer ate them:(
ReplyDeleteI have got the same hydrangeas which are huge this year. The lilies are very nice too.
ReplyDeleteThe Lilys are so thankful to find a home in your garden, so they kissed you!
ReplyDeleteSweet naughty Kitty!!
So great Hydrangeas! I can imagine, that they need some support.
Ha ha your Dh not noticing the pollen on your face, that would be the same with my Dh too.
ReplyDeleteWe're always happy to have some fun :-)) The lilies are so beautiful... and of course I love your cups and the jug.
ReplyDeleteA hug for you from Viola
That's funny about the flower dust on your face! I guess we don't look in the mirror much, do we? I'm glad you guys got a little rain! xo Pom Pom
ReplyDeleteMy grandma would definitely say that is a Tiger Lily. Glad you got some rain.
ReplyDeleteMiss Kitty is adorable. They love to watch us, don't they? Your hydrangeas are stunning!
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of Tiger Lillies, we started out with a few, they multiply quickly & I've divided them and moved them around and they are so lovely. My "deer" friends like them too. Thank you for stopping over on Homebody Monday and leaving comments, as always. I know blogger sometimes doesn't make it easy for us to comment. Thank you,Faith
