A Pretty Quilt

We're enjoying some lovely days although the forecast is for rain beginning tonight. The temperature yesterday rose to 18C  (about 64F)  and as you can imagine we spent the afternoon outside puttering. DH did some power washing, using the water from the rain barrels before more rain. ( We pay for our water as I suppose most people in towns do).
For those who are still under a blanket of white......

I noticed that one of the local thrift stores posted a couple of pictures on FB this morning.  I thought the quilt was quite lovely.  Then they showed the current display of doilies suitable for a similar quilt I suppose.

My task today is to go through my collection of children's books deciding what to do with them. Of course this involves a lot of reading and just paging through them before I make my decisions.
I usually try to set myself some chore for the upcoming day,  then when I've accomplished it I can feel free to read or just do nothing.

Have a lovely Thursday. Thanks for visiting ..... GM

**Diane in northern wis...I hope your poor sore foot is feeling better.

  2. I need a task a day, but I'm limited until I can bend more that 90 degrees and have a twisting caution. I'll have to give it a think.

  3. I shouldn't think it will be easy to go through your collection of children's books deciding what to do with them, I wish you well in your task.

With the weekend almost here, I wish you a good one.

    All the best Jan

  4. Doilies are so pretty! Hand made ones are intricate and a labor of love

Do you keep children's books or donate them to charities?

  6. That quilt is lovely, and those doilies are even more so. I don't use them...but my mom used to have them on things sometimes. And one of my sisters sure made a lot of them.

  9. We also have wet and quite warm weather here in the Bavarian Forest. The trees are happy :)
Its nice to discover some "gems" in the thrift store. All pieces you choose get a good home - like your cat Kitty :)
Yesterday i bought a nice old book for children: "365 good-night-stories". I had it in former times for my little boys but somehow I lost it in the house :) :) But I found it in the internet and will enjoy reading these nice stories with my little granddaughters.

  10. I hope you had a lovely time reading the children's books! I need to do that, too -- I must have a couple hundred here, and from time to time I do cull a few. There are a few I have never read, or only read once, which seems a shame. I'd like sometime to see which are your favorites that you will continue to keep around.

  11. Rain was forecast to return here tomorrow, but now they say only clouds and sun in the week ahead. Maybe that sunshine will make my seeds sprout finally!

I do love the colors of that quilt!

  12. Thank you Granny, for inquiring about my sore foot. I prayed for help with it, and two days later it was as good as new! I'm so thankful! We are now in the middle of a winter storm which is supposed to last thru Saturday afternoon with up to14 inches of snow! I guess March is going out like a Lion this year. Someone in weather forecasting said this was a record year for snow....more than in the last 100 years! wow. Hoping our huge snow piles (as high as the roof) will start melting soon!

  14. Oh, it is so very difficult for me to part with children’s books…or any book, for that matter. Very lovely display at your thrift store!

  15. Whenever I see handmade items like the quilt and doilies in the thrift shops, it seems a bit sad that they have ended up there after all of the work somebody put into them. Oh well, a sign of the times like everything else I suppose.
Going through your books sounds like a pleasurable task. Enjoy.

  16. Looking at the display of doilies I wonder if the making of them gave our great-grandmothers a few moments to relax and enjoy creating something pretty. Noting the quote from Hal Borland reminds me that I once had several of his books--did they make the move west and back again with me [?]
