It was inevitable that the water pipes would freeze in this unusually cold weather that we're having. DH has a heater aimed at the area where he thinks the problem lies, so hopefully ...
We needed eggs so we popped out to the nearest grocery store where I not only found what I needed but also a pretty little miniature rose in a 4"pot. I'll keep it on the table for now and put it out in a couple of months. If I can keep it alive. I don't have much luck with m miniature roses.
If You would like to buy a genuine, full-sized witness stand there's one for sale locally. I see they are asking $600. It would definitely be a topic of conversation.
Thanks for coming by today. I hope you're having a lovely weekend.
Some of my blog friends who live in Canada or Minnesota write about -35 with wind chills of of -50 so I guess we shouldn't complain, but how do they keep their pipes from freezing??
ReplyDeleteWe have insulation around our pipes with a very low electric current which keeps pipes from freezing.
ReplyDeleteyes i have a heat tape too!
DeleteSuch a pretty rose. but like you, I dont find that they last long.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your frozen pipes. Living in the northeast that has happened to us a few times and it is no fun! I learned a while ago that when we are expecting bitter cold weather to leave our faucets dripping to prevent freezing. Haven't had frozen pipes since. Have a great weekend and stay warm!
ReplyDeleteIf they freeze thaw gently with a hair dryer! Luckily we have homes that are super insulated, but it can happen. Years ago back in the 1970's we lived in a trailer house and we kept the cupboard doors open on cold nights. Heat tape works too but it has been known to start fires:(
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty colour the miniature rose is.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Oh dear.....so sorry to hear about your frozen pipes....one of those cold-weather hazards! Your little rose is beautiful....I love pink anything and have had my share of pink rose bushes.....Queen Elizabeth Rose was one of those that I remember well. Stay warm and safe....hope your pipes have thawed by now!
ReplyDeleteFrozen pipes are never good. Hopefully everything works out for you.
ReplyDeleteNow that witness stand ... I suppose someone will buy it, but why?!?
We have our cabinet doors open and leave the water running at a trickle right now. It's just plain scary how cold it is. We have -42F wind chill right now. Brrrrrr. Good luck with your pipes. We're nervous about leaving for vacation on Wednesday in the middle of all of this.
ReplyDeleteI never have much luck with miniature roses. I seem to kill them off quickly. The only one that lasted is one I planted in the ground at the lake. Dispite the harsh winters and heavy snow there, it came back year after year.
Blessings,
Betsy
I'm so sorry about the frozen water pipes. We are to have temps cold enough here for that to happen.
ReplyDeleteYour pink miniature rose is so pretty and delicate.
Hi lovely GM! That is a cool thing, the witness stand! Do you think young people prize antiques the way us grannies do? I haven't been antique shopping in so long. I'm so sorry your pipes froze. I can't believe how cold it is there. It's cold like that here but it's par for the course in our neck of the woods. xoPom Pom
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about frozen pipes. It's cold here today but have my heat blaring! LOL! Us Floridians don't know how to take the real cold. Pretty rose. I keep saying I am going to plant some roses but never get around to it. Happy New Year! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteFrozen pipes sound horrendous. What do you do for water? I've never experienced anything like that so I have no idea about it.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, hubby has managed to thaw them out for you. The cold sounds bad in many places (it has even been mentioned on our News), so I hope you all manage to stay safe and warm. Take care, Mxx
Thankfully, the cold seems to be easing off. We've not had trouble with pipes. The miniature rose is such a pretty colour. I can never keep them alive for long. A witness stand for sale - I wonder what one could do with THAT?
ReplyDeleteSorry about the frozen pipes, I hope it will be okay. It's nice to find a beautiful miniature rose to brighten your day in the cold.
ReplyDeleteI love miniature roses, they are so petite and pretty. I've had several but they never did well for me, so I gave up. I'm sure there's a secret for their care that I don't know. Sure hope you don't have a lot of damage on the pipes. We're holding our breath for ours during the next two days.
